Bristol’s Week in Film: August 2-8 2019

This week brings the dubious pleasure of watching carbon footprints expand and deepen before your naked, steaming eyeballs as slaphead duo Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson race around and blow shit up in the Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw.

Elsewhere, kiddies get the joy of the Angry Birds sequel, imaginatively titled The Angry Birds Movie 2, while art-sickos should stampede to the Watershed for the hugely controversial Holiday.

For squealing teens with deep pockets, Korean boy band BTS return with their third movie in just ten months. Other event cinema choices include the intriguing Prisoners of the Moon, exploring a side of the Apollo 11 mission that was rather glossed over by those recent celebrations, and The Magic Flute Live from Glyndebourne.

And it’s happy birthday to two cult favourites returning to the big screen this week. Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing turns 30 while Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction is 25. Oh, and the splendid Oldboy is back in glorious 4K too.
