Following The Sense of an Ending, director Ritesh Batra returns to India and re-unites with The Lunchbox actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui for this coming-of-age chalk’n’cheese romance about a working class Mumbai street photographer who persuades a middle class stranger (Sanya Malhotra) to pose as his fiancée in order to placate his nagging grandmother.

It’s a sedately paced drama that proceeds pretty much as you’d expect, but critics at the Berlin Film Festival were charmed by Batra’s skill at transcending clichés.
