Could this Elton John biopic be the new Bohemian Rhapsody? Well, perhaps. Director Dexter Fletcher was, after all, drafted in to finish off the Queen flick when Bryan Singer got fired. And the similarities don’t end there. Just as the surviving members of Queen produced Bohemian Rhapsody, so Reg and his partner David Furnish get producer credits on Rocketman. It’s a ‘musical fantasy’ version of Elton’s breakthrough years, which has gone down rather well with the critics.
Taron Egerton gets to wear the outsize glasses and rugs in the title role, Jamie Bell is cast as Elton’s long-tern songwriting partner Bernie Taupin, and Richard Madden plays his manager John Reid.
