The Rider
Disabled rodeo rider's tale reinvigorates the modern-day western
At the risk of provoking a Twitterstorm of condemnation about gender stereotyping, this week’s new releases have the potential to polarise many a hetero couple, with chaps plumping for the alien smackdown of The Predator while ladies opt for the romcom shenanigans of Crazy Rich Asians. Maybe they can compromise with elderly geezer heist comedy romp King of Thieves?
There are plenty of previews this week too, with weekend screenings of The House with a Clock in its Walls, Mark Wahlberg action flick Mile 22 on Wednesday and Thursday, and Gone Girl-style thriller A Simple Favour on Thursday.
Nose through this week’s event cinema and one-off screenings selections and you’ll find all kinds of treats, ranging from the world premiere of a new documentary about Bristol music legend Fat Paul to a digital makeover of John Lennon: Imagine with previously unseen extras. Oh, and if you really must join in, a new singalong version of big summer hit Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again arrives in cinemas this week.
