The House with a Clock in Its Walls

Director
Eli Roth
Certificate
12A
Running Time
105 mins

Best known for his grisly horrors (Cabin Fever, Hostel, Hostel: Part II, etc) and that terrible Death Wish remake, Eli Roth takes a left turn into family-friendly entertainment with this adaptation of the ’70s gothic kiddies’ yarn of the same title.

Owen Vaccaro plays 10-year-old orphan Lewis, who’s dispatched to live with his weird uncle Jonathan (Jack Black, taking a breather between Jumanji flicks) in a creaky old house with a creepy ticking heart. Turns out the town is seething with magic. Jonathan’s a rather crappy warlock and his neighbour Florence Zimmerman (Cate Blanchett) is a witch. All hell breaks lose when our pint-sized hero goes and accidentally raises the dead.
