144 things to do in Bristol in October 2017

The nights might be getting longer, but there’s plenty to look forward to this month.

There’s plenty for culture lovers to get their teeth into, as Greyson Perry’s The Most Popular Art Exhibition Ever! continues at Arnolfini, and RWA’s annual open exhibition puts a huge range of works on show, some for the first time. Raucus also return to Bristol, with new site-specific work Ice Road, and Circus City Festival swings into town, along with Simple Things Festival.

There are good ideas coming in thick and fast, as Bristol hosts the Festival of the Future City and also Bristol Festival of Literature – both offering an impressive line-up of speakers, to generate discussion and spark change.

Finally, as we lurch, zombie-like towards Halloween, some of Bristol’s best film offerings rise up. Don’t miss Ghostwatch, the BBC’s terrifying, never-repeated show about a fictional haunting, and also keep an eye on Horror in the Caves, with its excellent line-up of spooky screenings.
