Restaurant remains closed as cause of sickness outbreak confirmed

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Dec 31, 2025

A restaurant has confirmed the cause of a sickness outbreak which led to multiple diners falling ill after eating there in the run-up to Christmas Day.

Three Brothers Burgers remains closed but pledges to reopen on Saturday after the completion of two deep cleans.

Several Google reviews document people getting sick after eating at the Welsh Back restaurant on December 20 and 21.

Matt Dunlop wrote: “I’ve dined here on numerous occasions in the past and have always had positive experiences, which is why I chose Three Brothers Burgers for my company’s Christmas meal.

“Unfortunately, 8 out of 11 people in our party became seriously ill within 24 hours of dining at the restaurant.”

Mel Crane said: “Party of six of us at on Sunday 21st. By 23rd four of us were very ill with severe vomiting. Christmas totally ruined for entire family.”

Restaurant bosses have been liaising with environmental health officers (EHO) from the Food Standards Agency and have confirmed there was a norovirus outbreak.

A spokesperson for Three Brothers Burgers told the Bristol Post: “We have now heard back from one of the people who fell ill.

“They were contacted by Environmental Health this morning who confirmed that their sample had been tested and found to be positive for norovirus, also known as ‘the winter vomiting bug’.

“We have been working closely with the EHO since this outbreak and taken their advice on performing a professional deep cleaning routine against norovirus, as they had suspected this was the reason for this outbreak of sickness.

“The restaurant remains closed with the final deep clean happening today and we are planning on reopening to the public this coming Saturday (January 3).

“We have always taken food hygiene and the safety of our staff and customers as high priority and we are proud of our 5 star food hygiene rating.”
