Restaurant named seventh best in the UK
A restaurant that began as a series of pop-ups and supper clubs is celebrating being crowned seventh in the Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Local Restaurants.
The annual list of restaurants from across the UK is drawn from inspectors, reviewers and thousands of diners who find special places “that are the beating heart of every community, venues where the welcome is as good as the food and the atmosphere feels effortlessly warm and friendly”.
As well as the national accolade, Wangs in Montpelier has been named as the best restaurant in the South West.

The recognition comes as the restaurant on Bath Buildings founded by Sandy Or and Sacha McFarlane-Watts, and led in the kitchen by head chef Emily Xin Xin Chan, also celebrates its second birthday; continuing its mission “to combine modern Chinese cooking with Bristol’s good-time values”.
Sandy and Sacha said: “This recognition from the Good Food Guide is one hell of a way to mark our second birthday.
“It gives us the confidence to keep going with our mission: exploring the different culinary regions of China while giving the people of Bristol and beyond a really good time in Montpelier.
“We are unbelievably grateful for all the support we have received from local Bristolians, visitors to the city and the Chinese hospitality community across the UK.
“A huge thank you to everyone who nominated us and continues to support Wangs.
“We have some very exciting developments planned for our third year.”
