Chinese restaurant closes but owners to open new premises next door

By Martin Booth  Monday Jun 29, 2026

One of Bristol’s most popular Chinese restaurants has closed its doors but its owners are getting ready to open a new restaurant next door.

“Thank you all for your support, loyalty and the wonderful time you’ve spent with us over the years,” say the Fresh Bakery team in a note in the window of their former restaurant on Fairfax Street.

They said the decision to close was “sad” but that they are “delighted” to announce the opening of MeiMei which is set to open at the end of July or the beginning of August.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!

Its name may have suggested otherwise, but Fresh Bakery was an unassuming yet excellent restaurant serving a selection of Cantonese dishes.

“We sincerely invite you to visit us again and hope for your continued support,” the team added.

Fresh Bakery has received several recommendations in the upcoming EatDrink24/7 guide which is being published in July.

For Chris Davis of Little Hollows, Fresh Bakery was his “go-to dim sum restaurant” while the Pony Group’s Josh Eggleton recommended the “delicious dim sum, turnip cake and soup noodles”.

Sandy Or of Wangs added: “The food here is delicious. It is also such a warm and friendly place.”
