Experienced baristas to open their first cafe together
You can find Fenix Coffee opposite a weeping willow tree and in the shadow of Bristol’s famous Brutalist shot tower.
The cafe, due to open its doors in August on Passage Street, is co-owned by married couple Charlie Chung and Tiff Chan, who envisage it as being “made for the pause”.
Unusually, Fenix Coffee will not have a house blend; instead rotating a selection of coffees from different roasters that will change every few weeks.

To accompany their coffee – which to start will be from Dark Arts in east London and Taith in Lewes – guests will be able to enjoy shokupan, a style of Japanese milk bread.
But above all, Charlie and Tiff, who are childhood sweethearts from Hong Kong, want to provide excellent hospitality as well as making speciality coffee approachable.
“We want this to be a place for experts, enthusiasts or people who have no idea about coffee,” Charlie told Bristol24/7 on a recent morning.

In the countdown to opening, Charlie and Tiff, who live in Stoke Gifford, are being ably assisted by their miniature poodle, Jai-Jai, as their new cafe between the Bridge Inn and St Philip’s Bridge takes shape.
Charlie was previously a barista in Full Court Press and the Bristol Loaf and Tiff at Society Cafe and Dareshack, with the pair moving from Hong Kong to London where they both worked at Ozone.
The name of Fenix Coffee for Charlie “is an idea of letting people unwind” as well as an analogy for the couple building a new life for themselves in Bristol.
