Sorry to Bother You
Oakland rapper Boots Riley's surreal and satirical science fiction comedy

A Christmas Carol with Simon Callow
Simon Callow's lauded one-man show based on Dickens' own theatrical performance
Boots Riley’s much-acclaimed Sorry to Bother You pitches up this week, as does The Old Man and the Gun (featuring Robert Redford’s final screen performance), extraordinary documentary Three Identical Strangers, and – wholly unexpectedly – notorious middlebrow flop Tulip Fever.
Lots of previews too. The ever-growing ranks of our over-sensitive and perpetually apoplectic friends the Easily Offended should be overjoyed at the arrival of Lars Von Trier’s latest outrage, The House That Jack Built. The Everyman and Watershed’s previews of this one come with a recorded interview with naughty old Lars himself. The screenings of Mortal Engines count as previews in the topsy-turvy world of film industry logic because the film opens on Saturday and is not playing for a full seven days. You can catch the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday. And fishy DC superhero flick Aquaman previews on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Bristol Palestine Film Festival really gets into gear with its main weekend. Should you feel the need for any further encouragement to come over all Christmassy, It’s a Wonderful Life makes its annual appearance. Alternatively, you could opt for Elf, Die Hard, The Snowman and the Snowdog or Simon Callow’s A Christmas Carol. There’s also a free outdoor screening of Gremlins in Millennium Square.
