The much-derided sushi superhero gets his own origin movie – the sixth instalment in the DC Extended Universe, if you’re counting. This sees Jason Momoa pulling on the scaly pants for the third time (after the decidedly underwhelming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the box office disaster that was last year’s superhero pile-up Justice League) to take centre stage in an adventure that has fishboy’s alter ego Arthur Curry facing a threat from his own briny-dwelling bro’ Orm (Patrick Wilson).
It seems this dastardly sibling plans to lead revolting Atlanteans in battle against those nasty polluting mouth breathers up above. Amber Heard pulls hottie duties as our hero’s moist love interest Mera, though in keeping with the times she’s also a proper warrior in her own right. Nicole Kidman is cast as Arthur and Orm’s mum, though her chances of telling them to go and sit on the naughty step seem minimal. Making his DC debut as director is James Wan, who’s best known for the hit Saw, Conjuring and Insidious franchises
