Robin Hood

Director
Otto Bathurst
Certificate
12A
Running Time
116 mins

It’s been a full eight years since the last Robin Hood flick (Ridley Scott’s version with Russell Crowe, remember?) so audiences are clearly clamouring for another one. This one’s a prequel that’s billed as a “gritty reimagining”, with all that this entails – an approach that didn’t exactly work for Guy Ritchie’s flop King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Kingsman‘s Taron Egerton takes the title role and has described the film as “less Robin Hood-y” than previous versions, which seems a tad self-defeating. The cast also includes Jamie Foxx as Little John, Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, Tim Minchin as Friar Tuck, and Jamie Dornan as Will Scarlet. On the plus side, it’s directed by Otto Bathurst who won a BAFTA for Peaky Blinders.
