Letters from the Home Front
Eighty years after the outbreak of the second world war South West Dance Theatre are putting together a montage of music, image and dance to commemorate those who lost so much. Stories of vitality, adversity and endurance inspired by real events will be told through a series of letters. “Where words fail us, music, images and dance can sometimes help”.
Anna Davis, founding director of South West Dance Theatre says “By combining different dance styles along with other media – music from various genres and eras and moving images – we hope we are telling these stories in a way that resonates with some part of everyone.”
The production premieres on Remembrance Sunday at the Trinity Centre. The company have performed several productions at the Trinity Centre over the years, but Davis adds that for a production of this commemorative nature the converted church feels a particularly fitting venue.
South West Dance Theatre was established in 2010 with the aim of promoting diversity in dance and dancers in the south west and supporting local communities. Drawing from a range of styles including ballet, tap, contemporary, Latin, commercial and capoeira they have danced in venues from festivals and street performances to traditional theatres.
