New bikers’ hangout opens in Bristol

By Martin Booth  Monday Mar 11, 2024

A new space doubles as a workshop for motorbike tinkering as well as a cafe.

Explorers Hangout has been opened by Mark Ralph, the founder of West Country Choppers, who specialises in transforming classic motorbikes and “salvageable wrecks” into “masterpieces of custom motorbike machinery”.

Coffee is from an eponymous West Country Choppers blend, with a selection of pastries and cakes available.

Explorers Hangout can be found within Merton Road Trading Estate where Ashley Down, Bishopston and Horfield intersect.

Although primarily aimed at bikers, Mark is keen to stress that Explorers Hangout is for explorers of all shapes and sizes.

“I wanted a workshop and I wanted a cafe as well,” Mark told Bristol24/7.

“It’s a place to start your journey or finish your journey. I ride motorbikes and I cycle. It’s nice to have a place that’s cool to meet.”

“I’m trying to create a venue that’s fun. Somewhere to come before you go off on an adventure.”
