Fundraiser launched after break-in puts ‘strain’ on community restaurant
A pay-what-you-can restaurant is fundraising to recover from losses sustained due to a break-in in October.
The fundraiser for Aghan Tasty Corner launched on Monday, said the break-in has put a “strain” on owner Khano Sadiq Amahmad and pushed the restaurant’s survival into limbo.
Khano and the restaurant’s team have urged people who feel they can contribute via skills instead of money to also get in touch.

The fundraiser page said: “Khano opened Tasty Corner to provide a space for cultural assembly, community events and open jams alongside a restaurant which operates a ‘pay what you can’ model.
“Sadly in October, Afghan Tasty Corner was broken into, putting strain on Khano, and the future of Tasty Corner is now in the balance.
“We’re launching this fundraiser so that the business is able to go back to operating as usual and to improve the space so that the community can get better use from Tasty Corner.”
While a “minimum” target of £8,159 is desirable to replace stolen items and amp the shop’s security, the fundraiser is currently set to an initial target of £2,200.
The donations will go towards recovering money stolen from the restaurant’s till, installation of CCTV cameras and an alarm system, and adding a replacement door and shutter front for the shopfront.
If the fundraising target is exceeded, the team will say the money will be used in making other improvements to the restaurant, including upgrades to seating and tables, a new fridge, a coffee machine and more.
Afghan Tasty Corner opened on Oxford Place, off Stapleton Road, in 2023 and has since become an integral part of the neighbourhood’s community.
