Bookshop left ‘upset and frustrated’ after attempted break-in
The windows of an independent bookshop have been shattered in what is believed to be an attempted break-in.
Thankfully, nothing was stolen, Bookhaus said, but the team has been left “upset and frustrated” by the ordeal which took place on Thursday night.
“We’re in an independent shop,” bookseller Davey Poole told Bristol24/7.

“It’s not like we’ve got loads of cash. So yeah, it just feels unnecessary as a spot to target.”
The incident follows a string of break-ins recently reported by Bristol24/7 affecting businesses and organisations across our city, from cafes to a plant shop and a church.

There has been an outpouring of support on social media since the Wapping Wharf bookshop shared the news.
“Polite notice: please don’t rob your local indie!”, the business wrote.
“We had an attempted break-in last night at the shop. Luckily nothing was taken, …
“We have been here for five years and it’s the first time anything like this has happened to us, but I have definitely seen more and more businesses in Bristol facing a similar situation.”
Urging people to keep showing up for indie businesses, Davey added: “I hope everyone keeps an eye on each other and, as always, it’s just great to be able to support shops and businesses in the area.
“Especially if they’re bookshops.”
