Bristol Good Food Awards return

By Laura Collacott  Monday Jul 25, 2016

The Bristol Good Food Awards are to return in 2016 under new ownership, hunting out the city’s best food and drink of the year.

Awards – which started in 2012 – will be presented in 30 categories, from best restaurant to best fish and chips, at a ceremony on November 13.

Keen to engage with the eating public and reflect public opinion, the judging process has been democratised, with 50,000 nomination cards distributed around the city and a simplified online voting system. Winners will be tested and selected by a team of judges from nominations been submitted by the public.

“I want these awards to become the most sought-after accolade a good establishment can receive, and for those eating out to be absolutely sure that when they visit an award-winning or shortlisted establishment they are eating the very best,” says awards organiser and entrepreneur Chris Hull, based in Redland.

The expert judging panel will be led again by internationally renowned wine and food writer Angela Mount along with a team of the region’s best-loved chefs, critics and food producers.

“I am not in any way a knowledgable foodie,” Chris continues. “What I am, though, is passionate about eating excellent food and have eaten in some of the finest places all over the world. I am now very, very excited about learning from all those places in Bristol who are helping to make our city the food capital of Britain.”

They stand alongside the relaunched Local Food Producers Awards, which will be handing out trophies across 15 categories in September.
