New cab-hailing app promises better working conditions for drivers
A newly launched cab-hailing app has entered the market with the bold promise of offering an “ethical and driver-friendly taxi service”.
Founded by former Uber driver Jawad Burhan, who spent three years working for the company, CABO app aims to provide “greater flexibility for both customers and drivers”.
The platform also offers eco-friendly and women-driver options, with future plans for enhanced accessibility and even driver share ownership.
Burhan said that unlike major platforms that charge between 25–50 per cent commission per ride, CABO charges drivers a flat £1 fee per trip. The app also promises no surge pricing and full transparency—drivers can see exactly what customers are being charged.

The launch coincided with the May Day International Workers’ Day strike, during which private-hire drivers across the UK protested rising fees and worsening working conditions imposed by large ride-hailing companies.
Burhan said many drivers in Bristol, disillusioned by falling earnings and high commission rates, are turning to CABO as a fairer alternative.
He said: “In my time as an Uber driver, I saw the fees rise to a point where I couldn’t make ends meet. Uber were taking up to 50 per cent of what customers paid, and I had to spend more time on the road just to survive. They stopped listening to drivers.
“Speaking to other drivers, it was clear everyone was struggling. I felt there had to be a fairer way to run a business like this in Bristol—so I set out to prove it. I’ve surveyed drivers at different stages of the business and really listened to what they need.”
“It’s not just about the drivers though. For our customers, we promise no surge pricing—no matter the weather or the demand. That feels like a much fairer deal to me.”
