Bristol-based health-tech platform has big plans for pupil wellbeing

By Millie Pick  Monday Jul 11, 2022

Developing healthy habits in a family is not as simple as it sounds.

Parents might have little time on their hands and children might find it appalling to ‘eat their greens’.

A new app created by UWE Bristol graduates could change this. Famli provides families across the world with engaging activities aimed at inspiring exercise, healthy diets and positive mental health.

While most digital health solutions specifically target parents, graduates Benjamin Draper, William Testeil and Luke Greenwood spotted a gap in the market for family-focused technology.

Through a carefully curated activity programme and support network, Famli hopes to help parents with young children to look after themselves in a fun and simple way.

The app is already used by over 10,000 families and in Sweden, it has been chosen by clinicians as the number one solution to help prevent childhood obesity.

Recently, ambitions for this app are larger than ever as plans to advance wellbeing education for young people across Bristol are underway.

Benjamin Draper is hopeful for the future of Famli: “With the increasing importance of the wellbeing curriculum, primary schools are in need of more pupil wellbeing support.”

“Famli will enable primary schools to not only positively impact the wellbeing of their families outside of the classroom, but also support teachers in educating children on the importance of overall wellbeing,” he says.

Famli has raised over £120k on Seedrs crowdfunding platform, succeeding all targets and has subsequently attracted the attention of new investors.

William Testeil comments on the staggering support that Famli has received: “It’s really great to see the investor community getting behind the immense need to drive forward the innovation of wellbeing support and education for young children,” he says.

“This funding will help Famli to reach more schools and build on the amazing user feedback we have been receiving.”

The education technology market is growing rapidly, expected to be worth £404 billion by 2024.
