Budapest, 1913. The Austro-Hungarian Empire is on its last legs as Irisz Leiter (Juli Jakab) returns home in the hope of working as a milliner at the legendary store founded by her parents. They were killed in a fire when she was two and mystery surrounds the fate of her brother.
László Nemes‘s atmospheric, fin-de-siècle follow-up to his multiple award-winning debut Son of Saul is beautifully shot on 35mm in his trademark style (shallow focus, plenty of close-ups, etc) with no shortage of premonitions of war. He’ll be present for a Q&A after the Watershed’s preview screening.
