Also known as The Italian Connection and Manhunt in Milan, this 1972 ‘Poliziotteschi’ crime thriller from Italian writer/director Fernando Di Leo is actually part two of an exploitation trilogy, though you don’t need to have seen the first one to follow the story. This has a smalltime Milanese pimp fitted up by a Mafia boss for the disappearance of a huge shipment of drugs, prompting the dispatch of a pair of New York goons to administer a whacking.
It’s on screen courtesy of the Hellfire Video Club, who enthuse: “Minimising intricate plotting in favour of a plethora of punch-ups, stare-offs, go-go dancers, and cold-blooded beatings, Di Leo keeps the action flowing at a steady pace, throwing some of his own trademark countercultural interests into the heady mix (check the decadent hippy commune).”
