Alistair McGowan: Introductions to Classical Piano
Following a hugely successful tour in 2018, comedian and chart-topping pianist Alistair McGowan is back with further shows in which he mixes his favourite classical piano pieces with gags and impressions.
Following his classical chart-topping album Alistair McGowan: The Piano Album and popular tour, the multi-award-winning impressionist will be returning to the stage to mix classical piano music, historical anecdotes and celebrity voices in Introductions to Classical Piano.
Having not played the piano since he was a boy, Alistair reignited his passion for the instrument in his late 40s in order to play some of his favourite music, which led to the recording of his album.
“This tour is a whole new way of presenting classical piano music,” he explains. “It is, possibly, the first classical event in the world which has tried to intersperse romantic music with comedy. I’d be delighted if, as well as fans of classical music, I was able to encourage people who may not know much about the history of the piano to come and enjoy some of the incredible music written (and still being written) for the piano.
“As well as having the chance to share a little of the stories of the lives of the great composers and the extraordinary music they write, I simply can’t perform in a room and not have some fun with my favourite impressions. It could well be the first show in which you hear Harry Kane alongside the music of George Gershwin, Jacob Rees-Mogg between pieces by Edvard Grieg.”
