Unique adventurer joined by fans in Bristol

By Martin Booth  Sunday Apr 26, 2015

He appeared across the fields, his trademark red baseball cap visible before his extravagant ginger beard came into view as he approached a group of runners who had gathered to welcome him at Ashton Court on Sunday morning.

Extreme endurance adventurer Sean Conway is aiming to be the first person ever to conquer what has been dubbed the ‘Ultimate British Triathlon’.

He has already swum and cycled the 1,000-mile route from John O’Groats to Land’s End and is now completing the end of his epic challenge, which will be broadcast in a Discovery Channel documentary in June.

Several dozen runners joined Sean on a one-mile loop around Ashton Court before he posed for a few photographs, signed a few autographs and then set off in the direction of Glastonbury.

34-year-old Sean was a professional photographer before ditching the corporate life, growing a beard and becoming an adventurer.

In an exclusive interview, he told Bristol24/7 that once this current adventure was over, he is considering moving to Bristol.

“Some weird things go through my head while I’m running,” said Sean, who has been averaging 30 miles every day for the last month. “Then I get here and realise that people are getting inspired by what I do and it really motivates me to keep going.

“It really is amazing. I’m still in shock that all these people turned out just to see me.”
