My Bristol Favourites: Lorna Knapman

By Bristol24/7  Friday Jun 1, 2018

Lorna Knapman is the creative developer for Bristol Food Connections, the citywide celebration of Bristol’s food that takes place from June 11-17. Also the founder of Love Food Festival, Lorna takes pride in delivering unique, thought-provoking events which come with great atmosphere and a community spirit.

Here are Lorna’s top-five Bristol favourites:

St Nick’s Market

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

“This place rocks! I’m lucky to spend much of my time at St Nick’s Market; it’s a great place to work. There are so many great places to eat. The Glass Arcade has food from all over the globe, it’s super fresh and affordable too. Source is a particular highlight as well as Big Juice. Oh, and no trip to St Nick’s is complete without a moment to admire the wonderful Ahh Toots. The market is nearly 250 years old and has been operational as a market since 1743. How cool is that?

“I’m excited to be curating a programme of activities there for Bristol Food Connections including an extra special Vegan & Wellbeing Market, a BBC Food & Farming Awards Showcase Market at our farmers market, St Nick’s Night Market with BBC Introducing and a walking tour taking in the market’s food history.”

Bristol Temple Meads

“I’ve loved Temple Meads since the first time I visited Bristol as a child and went to the exploratory museum. Fast forward many years and I have my office in Bristol & Exeter House, which is a beautiful and inspiring space. One of the greatest things about Temple Meads is Hart’s Bakery, which is epic! Laura is a superstar; she has filled a railway arch with actual Bristol magic. The flowers at the entrance to the station are also always lovely. As much as I love Bristol, I love to travel and as a non-driver, Temple Meads is my gateway to the rest of the world.”

Paintworks

“I first started working at Paintworks when Bocabar opened and my son was young. We had so much fun in the early days of Boca and whilst working there I was inspired to start Love Food Festival. I have great friends there and I’m proud to call it our colourful festival home. It’s been so great for our BS4 community and they have been hugely supportive of Love Food over the years.”

St Anne’s Woods

“I spend a lot of time in the woods. A busy life calls for as much time in nature as possible. I’m often there walking my dog Geoff as it’s so peaceful. If you are lucky you might even see the kingfisher. I love to see the flowers come out throughout the year and listen to birdsong. It’s lush!”

The harbourside

“An obvious choice but I can’t resist the harbourside, having a walk by the water, admiring the ships and boats. And sitting on the edge of the jetty by the Arnolfini with a pint of ice cold cider on a sunny evening is so nice.”
