My Bristol Favourites: Great
Great is a creative director, producer, musician and the founder of Afro Revolution, putting on events and creative projects that aim to shift narratives and challenge how Black history and identity are seen and told.
“Most of my work moves between music, storytelling and building spaces for expression and connection in Bristol,” says Great.
These are Great’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Artist Residence

“Artist Residence on Portland Square in St Paul’s is where I go when I need to get work done or just think. I’ll take my laptop there, have meetings and end up staying longer than I planned. I like the worn and vintage feel of the place. It kind of takes you out of the usual pace of things, and it’s become a bit of a base for ideas and conversations.”
Gin & Juice

“Gin & Juice is my spot for cocktails and live jazz. The energy in this bar on Park Street is always good and relaxed but still lively. I go there when I want to switch off a bit, listen to music and just be in the moment.”
Old Market

“This is where I go on Saturdays when I want good food and a bit of variety. You’ve got different cultures and cuisines all in one place, and I like just walking around and trying whatever I’m in the mood for that day.”
Kuumba Centre

In 2025, the Kuumba Centre on Hepburn Road won a legal battle against Bristol City Council who had attempted to evict the current management – photo: Martin Booth
“Kuumba means a lot because of what it represents in Bristol’s Black community. It’s a space with real history and you can feel that when you’re in it. It’s about culture, expression and people coming together in a real way.”
Castle Park

“I go to Castle Park to slow down. Sitting there, and looking around at the mix of old ruins, grass and ferries passing through it, helps me reset a bit and get out of my head.”
