There’s a sunset feast marking the end of Ramadan and everyone is invited

By Bristol24/7  Friday Jun 1, 2018

A special event to mark the end of Ramadan is taking place as part of the 2018 Bristol Food Connections festival.

Run by Bristol’s Sudanese Association, Somali Girl’s Cooking Group, Somali Kitchen and Food Without Borders, the community iftar celebration will see the breaking of the traditional monthly Ramadan fast with what promises to be a delicious feast.

Taking place at sunset on Wednesday, June 13 at the Barton Hill Settlement, the feast has been supported by Bristol City Council who have awarded grants of up to £1,000 for community-driven events taken place during the festival.

Food Without Borders founder Aletia Shaw said: “The breaking of Ramadan is an incredibly important part of the Muslim calendar and a time to reflect on the importance of meal times.

“We’re really excited to share this experience with people and communities from across Bristol and beyond as part of the Food Connections festival.”

Bristol Food Connections chief executive Claire Peeters added: “Our mission at Bristol Food Connections is about bringing together different cultures and communities through the power of food and we can’t wait to host so many inspiring and diverse events across the city.

“The Community Iftar is a perfect example of the amazing and creative food projects that we have here in Bristol.”

Bristol Food Connections is taking place from June 11-17. To see the full programme or volunteer to play a part, visit www.bristolfoodconnections.com
