Bristol named as one of world’s best cities in 2025

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Jan 15, 2025

“Famously bohemian” Bristol has been named by Time Out as one of the best cities on the planet in 2025.

Bristol was sandwiched between Belfast and Mumbai on the latest annual list, which was topped by Cape Town in South Africa.

Just sneaking in at number 48 in the top-50, Bristol is highlighted for “street art on every corner, plus a lively mix of protests, raves, mega festivals and DIY gigs”.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Visit Bristol digital marketing manager Shonette Laffy said: “Bristol’s long been known for its rebellious and creative streak, but the city is now moving out of its underground phase and going global.”

Things to look forward to in 2025 according to Laffy include the Women’s Rugby World Cup, BoxHall coming to Welsh Back and the opening of the five-star Hotel Gotham in the Guildhall on Small Street.

Laffy added: “Visit now because: Bristol may not be the world’s best kept secret anymore but it still manages to surprise with every visit.

“The city has seen a new festival launch every year since 2022 – first there was Forwards, which was followed by Bristol Cocktail Weekend in 2023 and BS3 Live in 2024. Who knows what’s in store for 2025?”
