Uncertain future for bakery chain

By Martin Booth  Monday Mar 2, 2020

All of the shops belonging to a Bristol-based bakery chain were closed on Monday, as the future of the business looks uncertain.

A sign on the window of Redland Bakery on Chandos Road said the store “will be closed till further notice”, with the shelves bare inside.

With its headquarters on Severnside Trading Estate in Avonmouth, Redland Bakery has six shops across Bristol in Winterbourne, Westbury-on-Trym, Staple Hill, Shirehampton, Redland and Cotham.

The business was taken over in 2002 by Andrew Grzybowski, who the website says “has brought a passion for food, born out of his Polish heritage, and an extensive knowledge of the bakery and catering industries, building a family bakery business with a reputation for high quality, delicious bread, cakes and pastries and customer service that keeps people coming back time and again”.

Records filed at Companies House show that Grzybowski was appointed as the sole director of West Country Wholesale Bakers Ltd on February 14 2020, with its registered address Redland Bakery’s headquarters in Avonmouth.

Since 2009, Grzybowski has also been a director of West Country Retail Bakers Ltd, whose address is also Severnside Trading Estate, having been changed from Lower Park Row in 2017.

Bristol24/7 has attempted to contact Redland Bakery via telephone and email but has had no response.
