All-women winelist for new restaurant Bellita

By Martin Booth  Sunday Oct 11, 2015

The team behind Bell’s Diner & Bar Rooms in Montpelier will be opening that restaurant’s “boisterous little sister” on Cotham Hill.

In what was most recently Flinty Red, Bellita promises to offer food inspired by Spain, North Africa and the Middle East.

Bell’s head chef Sam Sohn-Rethel is among the trio of owners alongside current Bell’s custodians Kate Hawkings and Connie Coombes.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

“Bellita is definitely not a replica of Bell’s but very much carries the same spirit of convivial eating, cheerful drinking and jolly music,” says Hawkings.

“Think of it as Bell’s boisterous little sister.”

Head chef at Bellita will be Joe Harvey, currently sous-chef at Bell’s and a key part of the weekly St Werburgh’s pop-up Cafe Mulino.

Front of house manager Alex de Salengre was at the Pony & Trap before helping to launch Salt & Malt, and has also worked at top London establishments Polpo and St John Bread & Wine.

A compact list of wines all made by women is certainly a Bristol and possibly a UK first – with all available by the glass, carafe and bottle.

Bellita looks set to be one of the most hotly anticipated restaurant openings in Bristol this year. And there’s not long to wait either. Its doors open on Friday, October 16 at 5pm.
