New Mexican street food venture launched at taproom
A new street food residency has been launched at a taproom, bringing fresh offerings to an area already home to several acclaimed food and drink establishments.
Tomacco Taco, created by the father-and-son team behind Popti Bros, has taken up permanent residence at The Barrel Store at Wiper and True’s taproom in St Werburgh’s.
Father Leon Hughes is no novice in Bristol’s culinary scene, having co-founded popular gyros and chicken roll venture Magic Roll and later launching Popti & Beast, where a bakery-cum-cafe operates alongside a top-end butcher’s shop on Mina Road.
Operating from a distinctive yellow airstream, the concept draws on bold Mexican and Baja Californian flavours, serving tacos made with locally sourced ingredients and handmade corn tortillas.

Wiper and True, founded by Michael Wiper and Al True, brewed their award-winning beers in St Werburgh’s from 2013 until 2022, before transitioning into a community-focused food and drink destination.
