Idris Elba makes his directorial debut with an adaptation of Victor Headley's cult crime novel
Puppet filth, a social media thriller, Idris Elba’s directorial debut, a classy monochrome art house drama, and er, boneheaded Jackass stunts wrapped around a thin plot. This week’s selection of new releases is nothing if not eclectic.
It’s also a big week for al fresco cinema, assuming you’re into The Greatest Showman and/or The Goonies. Otherwise, forget it.
There are previews of American Animals on Weds and nunsploitation shocker The Nun on Thurs, while one-off screenings range from classics (Withnail and I, Heathers) to niche documentaries about Italian disco and very rich bastards indeed. Oh, and this week brings your first chance to savour the scratch’n’sniff edition of Wallace and Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
