Following the success of Arniegeddon and Genregeddon: Action, the Bristol Bad Film Club presents a welcome John Carpenter marathon for Halloween to celebrate the release of the umpteenth (oh, OK, 11th) Halloween flick.
First up at 5:10pm is The Fog, in which a bunch of undead seaman fulfil an ancient curse by menacing Jamie Lee Curtis. Sandwiched between Halloween and Escape from New York, this effective little supernatural chiller from 1980 was always the lost gem in the Carpenter oeuvre.
At 7pm, after a 15 minute break, it’s time for The Thing: Carpenter’s tense, FX-laden update of the 1953 creature feature, in which a bunch of boffins in the Antarctic unwisely thaw out a shape-shifting space alien.
Finally, at 9pm, after another 15 minute break, the spookiness climaxes with Carpenter’s oft-deconstructed and much-parodied original Halloween flick from 1978. At the time, this was the most profitable independent film ever made (Budget: $500,000. Gross: $50 million). Bore your buddies with the knowledge that Michael Myers’ mask was adapted from a William Shatner one, and not only was this Jamie Lee Curtis’s screen debut, but she was also the only ‘teenage girl’ in the film who was actually a teenager when it was shot.
There will also be prizes dished out during the evening. Tickets, price £14.50, are available here
