World famous club to close before relocating to new space ‘that no one can take away from us again’
One of Bristol’s most famous clubs will be closing in July.
The owners of Motion say they have “done everything we could to change the outcome” including submitting a bid to buy the site.
“But despite doing everything right, it’s become increasingly clear: we will not be open past July.
“This isn’t just the end of a lease. It’s the end of an era, not just for us but for the entire community who have collectively built something special here.”
The club’s owners say that “Motion has never just been a club. It’s been a training ground. A launchpad. A cultural engine.
“Bristol has given us so much, and we’re proud to have played a part in giving something back.”

But the closure of the venue on Avon Street is not the end, with the Motion team saying they are now “taking matters into our own hands” with Motion 2.0, “an ambitious plan to relocate and reimagine what Motion can be”.
The new space will have “the same soul, the same ethos, the same commitment to underground music, to opportunity, to independence and to support the Bristol scene we love”.
Bristol24/7 understands that this new venue currently has the working name of Project:Victoria and could be located only a few hundred yards from Motion on Victoria Terrace in St Philip’s.
An ambitious campaign has now been launched to secure Motion’s future which hopes to raise £250,000 to secure a permanent home for Motion and its sister venue, Marble Factory.
