One of Bristol’s most unusual spaces to close ahead of redevelopment
A cavernous underground space that has hosted everything from club nights to boxing is set to close.
Situated within the loading bay of the Galleries, events within the unusual location will no longer happen in 2026 ahead of the demolition of the shopping centre.
The final club night at the Underground on Fairfax Street will be on new year’s eve.
The Underground is believed to be the UK’s largest subterranean venue.
But its days are numbered due to plans to knock down the Galleries and and build a major mixed-use development which will include flats, offices and student accommodation.

In a statement, the team at the Underground said: “It’s with a heavy heart that we announce this AW25 season will be our last run of shows at The Underground.
“After years of unforgettable nights and incredible music, our journey at this venue is coming to an end.
“We always knew the space would be temporary, but we were optimistic that we would at least have another year.
“Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control have accelerated our timeline, forcing us to say goodbye sooner than anticipated.”

The Underground’s forthcoming season will be your last chance to experience the space before it closes.
Acts include Alix Perez, Avalon Emmerson, DJ Boring, Interplanetary Criminal, Shy FX, Sim0ne, 1-800 Girls, TSHA and HAAi.
