Mixed-media group exhibition ‘MUD METAL OIL’ comes to Centrespace
Arriving at Centrespace Gallery on May 22 for six days, the exhibition MUD METAL OIL will feature a range of pieces from a group of local artists working in their own distinct ways.
While some are students or emerging practitioners, others in the group are more established.
Contemporary urban artist Côme Roumegoux utilises what he terms “the raw, instinctive energy of graffiti” and the ancient art of copper enamelling within his practice. For him, this clash of styles is exhilarating, and analogous to the tone of this diverse and celebratory exhibition.

“By uniting these varied practices under one roof, the exhibition seeks to bridge perceived divides between artistic fields”, he says.
“In doing so, it reflects the strength and beauty that emerge when differences are embraced, demonstrating how individual voices can come together to form a powerful collective whole.”

Joining Roumegoux, the other contributors are painter Rob Carter, enamellist Harry Brown, ceramicist and mixed media artist Karen Painter, emerging artists Conner Gard and Ali Topan, and Jem O’Carroll, whose practice involves sifting dry enamel powder on to copper and then firing it in a kiln at 800°c.
“The title MUD METAL OIL gestures toward the tactile and transformative nature of artistic practice”, states Roumegoux.

“While each artist works in their own way, their approaches share a deep commitment to process, exploration, and expression.
“We believe the exhibition will resonate with Bristol’s vibrant creative community.”
