Debut solo exhibition from Liam Hart examines the ‘non-linear journey’ of mental health
Based in the South West, Liam Hart is an artist with a multi-faceted realist and surrealist drawing and painting practice that looks at what he terms “the intersection between mental health and the psyche”.
His exploration of the subject is often seen through the lens of the family home, which he sees as “both a literal and metaphorical reflection of the mind”.
Within this space, he situates a fictional family: the Blightons. By delving into the psychology of each family member, he is able to reveal “the moments we are often afraid to address”.

He continues: “The mother represents emotional nurturing, the father signifies authority, and the siblings reflect the dynamics of support, conflict, and play.
“These shifting roles mirror the changing nature of the self, influenced by environment and circumstance.”
Coming to Centrespace Gallery on July 17-22, Hart’s debut solo exhibition Haunting of the House: Painting the ghosts of memories will showcase a patchwork of pieces mapping “the non-linear journey of mental health”, imbuing everyday objects with symbolism and weight that aims to capture a shared sense of humanity.
“Ultimately, it’s a story of hope, proving that confronting our past memories doesn’t destroy us, but allows us to rebuild.”
