Backhand #4 sees Bristol artists respond to the theme: ‘Cracking’
Founded by Bristol artists Jacob Faulkner and Sam Brentnall, Backhand is an exhibition and event series that sees a group of local creatives responding to a theme.
After previous iterations including ‘dreary’ and ‘clumsy’, Backhand #4 has now been announced, with this year’s chosen word: ‘cracking’.
Taking place at Centrespace over a five-day period from April 3, the project will champion mid-career artists prioritising “experimentation, collaboration and public participation”.

“Our ethos is to be an artist-led exhibition platform based in Bristol”, say Faulkner and Brentnall, “creating accessible and engaging spaces for contemporary art.”
Backhand #4 will feature illustration, painting, design and mixed media work, as well as an energetic programme of events and workshops including a Bristol Life Drawing session, live performance and a secret gig.
An artist market will run throughout the exhibition, with a raffle to be held on the opening night.
