30 brilliant black and white photographs of Bristol
The perfect simplicity of a disposable camera ignited James Deacon’s early interest in photography. He spent his formative years capturing and developing the memories he had made, immersed in the surroundings of his grandfather’s stone-cutting workshop.
Spending time taking pictures became a source of comfort for the photographer, as he struggled to deal with anxiety and depression from the age of 16.
“The cathartic nature of getting lost behind the lens, forgetting about any adversity you are facing, is something I believe to be profound and powerful,” says Deacon, who recently left his job as a teacher to pursue a career in writing, public speaking and photography.
There is currently an exhibition of Deacon’s photographs at West Street Kitchen in Old Market. To buy a print of any of the photos, visit www.jamesdeacon.co.uk or email [email protected].
