Hallen FC’s Almondsbury future ‘secured’

By Neil Maggs  Wednesday Jun 24, 2015

Hallen AFC are close to securing their future at their Almondsbury home, the club has announced.

The 65-year-old club with junior and adult teams claimed it was being evicted from the Hallen Centre in Moorhouse Lane by the parish council.

Almondsbury Parish Council said it could no longer afford to support the club at its 40-year home – triggering a high-profile campaign which reached Premier League footballers and pundits in May.

On Wednesday the club said talks with the council’s solicitors had led to a document securing the club’s right to play at the ground.

“This is due to an agreement that was made years ago after Hallen AFC gave up its original clubhouse, bar, changing rooms and playing rights so that the Hallen Centre was able to be built,” a spokesperson at Hallen AFC said.

“We are now currently in talks with the solicitors of Almondsbury Parish Council regarding the future of our position at Hallen. This we hope will lead to the club having a long term future at Hallen.”

The club dismissed rumours that a new lease had been signed.

It added: “There is still much to sort out and many things to discuss although it is a great relief to know that we are not leaving Hallen and that our adult and junior teams can continue to play at Moorhouse Lane after doing so for over 40 years previously.”
