New ‘meanwhile site’ for vehicle dwellers on vacant land
A new site for 15 caravan pitches could be created on a patch of vacant tarmac in Lawrence Weston.
The so-called ‘meanwhile site’ is at the end of Knovill Close and behind houses on Broadlands Drive and George Boon Drive.
In the longer term, Bristol City Council wants to build social housing there.
The council is applying to itself for planning permission for the site near Aust Farm House, a reminder of the days when farms dotted the countryside around what is now Lawrence Weston.
This new meanwhile site follows others across Bristol including on land in Whitchurch and Lockleaze, and is part of a wider push to create more places where people living in vehicles can formally stay.
This includes relocating caravans from the Downs, after years of complaints from residents living nearby.
Pitches on meanwhile sites come with access to running water, toilets, electricity and bins; with pitch fees charged at £31.50 per week.
