Ashton Gate could be host venue at Women’s World Cup 2035
Fresh from staging matches at the Women’s Rugby World Cup, Ashton Gate is included in the UK’s bid to host the Women’s Football World Cup in 2035.
The south Bristol stadium is one of the selected venues – alongside others including a yet-to-be-built new Old Trafford – in a joint bid submitted to FIFA by the football associations of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
“We are honoured to be included in the UK bid and have worked hard with the citywide Bristol team to put forward a compelling case for Ashton Gate,” said Ashton Gate chief operating officer, Ross Wormald.
“Hosting two quarter-finals and both semi-finals of the Women’s Rugby World Cup in September, with 92,000 supporters from all over the world coming through the turnstiles, is testament of our ability to deliver a global event and we are hopeful of being included should the UK bid be successful.”
FIFA is due to decide on the 2035 World Cup host in April 2026, with tournament venues only due to be confirmed in 2030.
