Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

Running Time
119 mins

It’s another of those sequels nobody asked for. In the original 1995 Jumanji, you’ll recall, an even hairier-than-usual Robin Williams was disgorged from a board game along with a jungle full of animatronic and computer-generated beasts. If board games were passé back then, they’re positively prehistoric now, so this version offers instead a video game into which the protagonists are sucked, only to find themselves in the same world as that occupied by the late Mr. Williams.

Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan lead the cast, and don’t be surprised if Williams pops up in archive footage form. Incidentally, there was actually another ‘spiritual sequel’ to JumanjiZathura: A Space Adventure, released in 2005. But as that was a monumental flop, the distributors are seemingly determined to write it out of film history.
