Fire breaks out in former shop

A fire broke out in a large former shop on Sunday afternoon.

Crews from at least six fire engines tackled the blaze at the old Wilko on East Street in Bedminster.

Roads at the front and back of the empty building were closed off to traffic as a strong smell of smoke drifted through the area.

The fire broke out in a former Wilko shop which closed in 2023

Avon Fire & Rescue Service extinguished the fire and used mechanical ventilation equipment to clear smoke from the building.

East Street has since reopened to traffic with Dean Lane and Dean Street still closed by police.

Bristol24/7 has contacted Avon Fire & Rescue Service for comment.
