The Dinner

Running Time
120 mins

The Messenger and Rampart director Oren Moverman helms this third film version of the bestselling novel of the same title by Herman Koch (the previous Dutch and Italian adaptations were little seen outside the festival circuit).

One for anyone who enjoyed Carnage and The Party, its fish-in-a-barrel targets are two bourgeois couples who meet for dinner at a fancy-pants restaurant, where things get very ugly very quickly. Smarmy congressman Richard Gere is here with stressed wife Rebecca Hall to meet his estranged, resentful schoolteacher brother Steve Coogan and his long-suffering spouse Laura Linney. The purpose of the meeting is to decide what to do about their respective sons, who’ve been caught on CCTV committing a horrendous crime together.
