Shiraz: A Romance of India

Director

Certificate

Running Time
105 mins

Shot on location in India with an all-Indian cast, this sumptuous 1928 silent romantic weepie is a fictionalised account of the story behind the creation of the Taj Mahal. Producer/star Himansu Rai plays lovestruck humble potter Shiraz, who follows his childhood sweetheart Selima (Enakshi Rama Rau), who was raised as his sister, when she’s sold by slave traders to the future emperor (Charu Roy).

Recently restored to its full glory by the BFI, this ambitious epic is now accompanied by a specially commissioned score by Anouska Shankar (daughter of Ravi). It’s on screen as part of Filmic 2018.
