GWR celebrate Lionesses’ victory

By Izzy Watt  Monday Jul 28, 2025

Great Western Railway has created a mural on one of its Intercity Express trains to mark the success of the Lionesses on Sunday night.

After a dramatic 3-1 penalty shootout against Spain, England won the UEFA Women’s Championship on Sunday.

This made the women’s team the first English team to win a major tournament on foreign soil.

Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

This also made the Lionesses back-to-back Euro’s winners, as they were also crowned Euro’s champions during the 2022 championship.

GWR first branded a train in tribute to the Lionesses following their 2022 victory and have now done so again.

“The Lionesses go from strength to strength and have filled the nation with joy,” Amanda Burns, sales and managing director for GWR, said. “The Lionesses are truly worthy of further recognition after retaining their Euro crown.”

GWR team members Joyla Merly Da Cunha, Sylwia Garabedian, Maria Raluca-Popa and Catia Hunter were on hand to show their support, posing proudly with the train, as the new graphic debuted on Monday

At 7.29am on Monday, the train departed London Paddington for Bristol Temple Meads.

The train was met by members of Bristol City Women and Bristol Rovers Women football teams.

Leah Douglas, from Bristol Rovers, and Emily Syme, from Bristol City, played keepy-uppies in front of the crowd.
