Large portion of city centre evacuated due to damaged gas main
A large number of streets and businesses have been evacuated due to a damaged gas main in the city centre.
Buses are stranded and a police cordon stretches along a long portion of St Augustine’s Parade, encompassing the Bristol Hippodrome and a number of other businesses.
Roads are closed from the Bearpit through to Park Row, Park Street, and Anchor Road.
They include Lodge Street and Park Street Avenue.

Emergency services said the leak occurred on Colston Street and advised the public to avoid the area.
They were called to the scene at 1.43pm and remain on site.
A number of employees of local businesses including the Bristol Beacon sat on the pavement having been evacuated from their buildings.
Buses had ground to a halt on Broad Quay and Colston Avenue, some stuck behind police cordons.
“Nothing’s going anywhere at the moment, in or out of town” a bus driver said.
