Two T20 Blast wins in Bristol in one weekend for Gloucestershire

By Martin Booth  Sunday Jun 7, 2026

From Matt Taylor taking a wicket with the first ball against Somerset on Friday night to him then denying Worcestershire the four they needed to win the game off the final ball on Sunday with huge thanks to his brother Jack Taylor’s exceptional captaincy, changing the field as fast as Lady Gaga changes her stage outfits, both the Taylor family and Gloucestershire fans had a weekend of cricket to remember.

Beating Somerset in Bristol is always sweet and Friday was nothing short of an annihilation as Gloucestershire won by seven wickets.

D’Arcy Short top scored with 63 in the run chase which saw Gloucestershire exceed Somerset’s total of 137-8 in just 14.1 overs.

Two days later was a much tighter affair as Gloucestershire posted 148-8 against visitors Worcestershire with Ben Charlesworth scoring a quick-fire 49 off 34 balls before being caught on the boundary.

Duan Jansen then claimed four scalps, which moves him to the top wicket taker in this season’s Vitality Blast competition; and there were two each for brothers Matt and Jack Taylor, and two also for Marchant de Lange.

As the rain began to fall in Ashley Down, Worcestershire needed eight runs off the last over but Matt Taylor held firm up to the very final ball of the match, with a Gloucestershire win by three runs sending not just Tez Kirby dancing happily back home.
