Shire and Short put Surrey to the sword
Saturday night in Bristol and while there was whining at St Paul’s Carnival, a mile away in Ashley Down there were wickets falling and a win for Gloucestershire.
A 57-run victory over Surrey means that Mark Alleyne’s men can still qualify for the quarter-finals of this year’s T20 Blast competition.
D’Arcy Short carried his bat for Glos, top scoring with 92 not out, ably supported by Jack Taylor (40) and Dawid Malan (28).
Surrey – packed with England internationals including Jason Roy, Ollie Pope and Dan Lawrence – never looked capable of reaching Gloucestershire’s 191-5.
James Hayes, making his Shire debut after being brought in on loan from Nottinghamshire, picked up three wickets and there were two each from as Matt Taylor, Liam Scott and Marchant de Lange as Surrey were skittled all out for 134 in the 19th over.
